Frequently Asked Questions What do I need to know? Services are available for New York State residents. Sessions are conducted virtually via HIPAA-compliant telehealth means. How do I make an appointment? To make an appointment send an email to allegropsychotherapy@gmail.com or call (631) 452-9223. You may also use the book online button to schedule an appointment via Zocdoc. Please allow 24 to 48 hours for us to get back to you. Do you accept insurance? We are not in network with insurance. If you have out of network benefits we will do our best to coordinate services and submit your claims. Please inquire with your insurance company about out of network benefits as services may be covered in full or in part by your insurance. Do you offer a sliding scale? Yes we offer a sliding scale for those people who cannot afford the standard session rate. Reduced fee rates are adjusted to meet your unique circumstance. What about medication? Therapists do not prescribe psychiatric medications, but often work closely with providers who do prescribe these medications. Often times, a combination of psychiatric medication and therapy is needed to achieve desired results, but this does not mean medication is always needed or will be needed indefinitely. Your therapist can provide you with a referral that might be a good fit for you. What is the difference between an LMHC, MHC-LP, and MHC-I? These indicate the credential held by the clinician. LMHC stands for licensed mental health counselor. MHC-LP stands for mental health counselor with a limited permit. MHC-I stands for mental health counselor intern. All clinicians on our team have completed a master’s degree in mental health counseling or are currently enrolled in a master's program and are licensed or permitted to practice psychotherapy in New York state. A licensed clinician has completed all requirements for licensure, including the master’s degree, internship, licensing exam, and 3,000 hours of supervised experience. A limited permit holder has completed their master’s degree, internship, and are currently accruing hours of supervised experience in order to qualify for their full license. An intern is a graduate student currently attending a master's mental health counseling program while gaining experience in the field. All limited permit holders and interns meet with a supervisor weekly for professional supervision and support. What is the cancellation policy? Contact your therapist directly if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. If you do not show up for your scheduled therapy appointment, and you have not notified your therapist at least 24 hours in advance, you will be required to pay the full cost of the session. When you have a scheduled session, you are reserving your therapist’s time. What is the confidentiality policy? State law and professional ethics require therapists to maintain confidentiality except for the following situations: If the therapist has reason to suspect the client is seriously in danger of harming him/herself or has threatened to harm another person. If the therapist has reason to suspect past or present abuse or neglect of children, vulnerable adults, or elders based on information provided by the client or collateral sources. Aside from these rare exceptions, your therapist cannot release information without obtaining your written permission to anyone else for any reason. Electronic communication including but not limited to emails, texts, and phone calls are not a secure form of communication. Please keep this in mind when communicating with your therapist.
